Galerie Terra Delft

Galerie Terra Delft was founded in 1986 by goldsmith and bookkeeper Joke Doedens and ceramist Simone Haak. In 2024, the gallery will celebrate its 38th anniversary. After the termination of Galerie De Witte Voet and Galerie Carla Koch, Galerie Terra Delft is still one of the very few galleries in the Netherlands specialising in contemporary ceramics.

According to the jury of the Van Achterbergh Prize (consisting of chairman Marcel Brouwer, Nico Mogendorff, Gerda Brust, Nora Leijen and Aty Köhne), you can visit the gallery for beautifully designed utilitarian objects as well as autonomous one-offs. ‘This combination is unique and thus Galerie Terra Delft attracts a wide audience of both specialised collectors and lovers of contemporary ceramics, where quality is always paramount.’

The jury continued: 'Galerie Terra Delft promotes and shows contemporary autonomous work, thus acquiring a position of its own in Delft alongside the (globally) famous Delft pottery. But they do not limit themselves to Delft. In 2012, a collaboration with the Sanbao Ceramic Art Institute in Jingdezhen, China was established and Terra organises exchanges of ceramists and exhibitions. This even led to the opening of a Terra branch in Beijing in spring 2021: Terra Beijing. The gallery presents contemporary ceramics internationally and promotes cultural cooperation between east and west.'

The Van Achterbergh-Domhof Foundation

The Van Achterbergh-Domhof Foundation manages the estate of the collector and founder, J.W.N. van Achterbergh (1928-2009). Since its establishment in 2005, the foundation has been promoting applied arts, especially those of ancient and modern ceramics. To this end, the foundation grants subsidies to ceramists, artists and institutions. In addition, the Van Achterbergh Prize is awarded every two years.
