Plate with Dutch landscape, Delft, 1680 – 1690, earthenware, Princessehof National Museum of Ceramics (on loan from Ottema-Kingma Stichting).
Frederik van Frytom (approx. 1632 – 1702) was an excellent plate painter. He is considered to be one of the best painters of landscapes in particular. This plate shows how he created depths and shadows with thousands of dots and lines. This is a very clever feat, because once a brushstroke had been made it could no longer be corrected.
