Plate with decoration of Mary with child in a Chinese kraak edge, northern Netherlands, 1620 – 1650, earthenware, Princessehof National Museum of Ceramics (on loan from Ottema-Kingma Stichting).
In the first half of the 17th century, Dutch pottery painters used oriental and western decorations together. For example, the painter provided this plate with a western Mary and child with a Chinese decorative edge, inspired by kraak porcelain.
