Left: Plate with decoration of birds in a river landscape, China, 1600 – 1625, porcelain, Princessehof National Museum of Ceramics.
Right: Dish with decoration of peacocks in landscape, Delft, 1680 – 1700, porcelain, Princessehof National Museum of Ceramics (on loan from Ottema-Kingma Stichting).
This Delft dish is an almost exact copy of a Chinese kraakbord (right). In the 17th century, the people of Delft refined their product by adjusting the clay composition and the baking process. The quality of the paintings also improved. The result: a Chinese kraakbord, but in Delftware.
