Starting in October 2022, a large exhibition will dive into the world of festive traditions – from Easter to Keti Koti, and from Leidens Ontzet to the golden wedding anniversary. Visitors will be able to participate in all these celebrations at the museum. Traditionally, celebrations and food are inextricably linked, from the challe on the Sabbath and the Eid table at the Sugar Feast to the pink or blue cake at the gender reveal party.
What we are looking for:
We are looking for the celebration tables and stories of people from all over the Netherlands that we can include in the exhibition. What are you celebrating and what is on the table? Perhaps you've invented your own holiday, or celebrate Valentine's Day alone, or do you use your grandmother's silverware every year at Christmas. We aren’t interested in luxury tableware, but in personal stories. Everyone has their own traditions, and we want to show them.
Exhibition
We will choose 20-30 festive tables from the submissions. If your story is selected, we would like to come and interview you and borrow the tableware that you use when you’re celebrating (whether this is Wedgwood or paper plates from the HEMA), but also the tablecloth, glasses, garlands and candles. In the exhibition, which runs from October 2022 to September 2023, dozens of festively laid tables and the accompanying personal stories will illustrate how people in the Netherlands enjoy themselves. Perhaps this idea makes you so enthusiastic that you will lend us your only set of tableware, or even your dining table. We will provide replacements in such cases.
