The exhibition EKWC@Princessehof: Meekyoung Shin opens in the Princessehof National Museum of Ceramics in Leeuwarden on 27 November 2021 and ends on 31 July 2022. The exhibition is devoted to new work by Meekyoung Shin (South Korea, 1967), in which she explores the boundaries between nature and art. Her new Megalith Series was inspired by the creation of stone from clay. Shin made the work during an artist’s residency at sundaymorning@ekwc in Oisterwijk, the Netherlands.
The new work, consisting of individual objects, was created by shaping, bending, sanding and firing clay, resulting in a material that resembles ancient mineral rock. Shin used these to create rock formations. Shin has fashioned a universal structure from clay that tests the limits of the material, is both old and new, and both Eastern and Western.
