East Meets West

The presentation of the permanent collection

In the exhibition East Meets West you travel around the world and through time with ceramics as your guide. Every place and time has its own ceramics, which reflect political, economic and cultural circumstances. Moreover, knowledge and taste travel from East to West, and vice versa. Along the way you will discover unexpected similarities in styles, shapes and techniques from all over the world. From China, the cradle of ceramics, to the Frisian clay.

Permanent collection

The museum’s permanent collection is displayed in East Meets West, including an important collection of Chinese porcelain, Delft Blue and Dutch Art Nouveau and Art Deco ceramics.

Princessehof 100 years

The Princessehof National Museum of Ceramics in Leeuwarden celebrated its centenary in 2017. On 2 December, the museum reopened after being closed for 2 months for major renovations. The presentation of the permanent collection has been completely renewed. In addition, the foyer, the shop, the cash desk area, the tea salon and the garden have undergone a metamorphosis. With the new arrangement of the permanent collection and no fewer than four exhibitions of contemporary ceramics, the museum is ready for the Leeuwarden-Fryslân European Capital of Culture 2018.
