Sea Silt Linking Elements by Humade

4 June 2022 until 30 October 2022

With the acute shortage of raw materials, it is becoming obvious that a local, more circular economy is a solution. In this exhibition, design studio Humade (Lotte Dekker and Gieke van Lon) presents the various stages of their research project Linking Elements. Central to the project is salty sea silt, extracted from the Eems-Dollard estuary. Silt accumulation hinders the accessibility of Dutch ports, lowers the quality of the surrounding water and threatens biodiversity. However, after a maturation process silt can be used to reinforce dikes and raise the level of agricultural land. Humade investigated the elasticity of this rediscovered resource. What else can be made with this circular, soil-based building material?
